ABOUT SITC

What is Six in the City?
Six in the City was a Milwaukee happy hour social gathering. Six in the City (SITC) showed up at a different venue one Friday a month for happy hour starting at 6:00ish (heavy on the "ish"). Each month, we sent an email to SITC members announcing that month's location and any other details (such as food or drink specials or other promotions). Six in the City wasn't a formal club, so the only membership requirement was that you showed up from time to time and had fun.

The inspiration for SITC was a former group called 501 (which met at 5:01pm). As former regular attendees of 501, we wanted to continue to this Milwaukee social avenue and decided to revive the group (with the blessing of the 501 founders) in February 2004. We changed the start time to 6:00pm, hence the name Six in the City.

Who attends?
SITC was a diverse and dynamic group with a healthy mix of singles and couples. There were regular attendees originally from around WI, the U.S., and the whole world. A majority were young professionals, but everyone was welcome. The only requirement was that you were at least 21...

When does SITC meet?
Six... 6:00pm on one Friday a month, that is (see "What is SITC" above). SITC members weren't required to go every month or exactly at 6:00pm - you could arrive whenever you wanted. Of course, the happy hour specials usually only lasted until 7:00pm or 8:00pm, so the earlier you got there the better.

From February 2004 to summer 2007, SITC met weekly except for a once-a-month schedule in the summers. Starting in September 2007, we decided to change to a once-a-month schedule throughout the year. February 29, 2008 was the last Six in the City - we decided to have our 4-year celebration double as the SITC finale.

Where does Six meet?
From week to week we visited different types of venues in Milwaukee - clubs, pubs, lounges, corner bars, restaurants, and everything in between. The location varied from neighborhoods as far south as Bay View to as far north as Riverwest. The emphasis was on checking out new and off-the-beaten-path venues, but we hit a little bit of everything.

Why Six?
"Six" was an excellent way to expand your horizons and get to know Milwaukee - both geographically and socially. In the immortal words of one of the SITC founders, everyone was encouraged to "mingle their *ss off." The SITC experience was entirely what you made it, so you could mingle & make new friends, or hang out and catch up with old friends, or unwind with a few co-workers. You just had to make sure to have fun!
